2024 is expected to be a record year for women’s elite sports.
Deloitte forecasts that the revenue from women’s elite sports will surpass the 1 billion US dollar mark for the first time this year. It is anticipated that—serving as an indicator of the potential and momentum in this field—the valuations of teams and leagues will continue to rise.
“Women’s elite sport is developing swiftly in stature, but is also still nascent, with many of the major leagues only established in the last decade, and many territories yet to establish a mainstream culture around women’s elite sports.” Additionally, the representation of women in leadership and decision-making positions in sports still lags behind the progress seen in other industries.
Deloitte concludes: “The impending billion-dollar milestone should be celebrated, but women’s sports—at elite and grassroots levels—should be nurtured and invested in, both in 2024 and in the years to come.”
