Gender-specific differences in career choices between women and men have decreased over the past ten years, as reported by ZEIT ONLINE citing the Federal Statistical Office (DESTATIS).
According to the report, the proportion of women in various sectors has increased as follows from 2013 to 2023:
On the other hand, men are no longer as underrepresented in nursing professions and in retail as they used to be. Their proportion has increased in the following areas:
In male-dominated sectors, women are clearly catching up, and the gender-specific differences in career choices between women and men have decreased. However, they are still underrepresented. Conversely, a similar situation exists in female-dominated sectors.
