Antje Jörg
Managing Director at the Munich Fire DepartmentState Capital Munich
“I have often been invited to throw my hat into the ring throughout my career. But nothing was handed to me on a silver platter,” says Antje Jörg, Managing Director at the Munich Fire Department.
For 33 years, Antje Jörg has worked in the administration of the City of Munich. Since 2019, she has been back where her career originally began as a trainee: at the fire department. An advertisement in a Munich S-Bahn sparked the idea to apply for a training position— a decision the 52-year-old has never regretted.
On the contrary: “I would do it all over again,” she says.
Antje Jörg is open to new experiences, courageous, and confident. With every change of department in the city administration, she encountered new professional challenges— as well as interpersonal trials in the microcosm of public service. She draws strength from the important women in her life, continually reflects on how she wants to shape her career, and is more self-assured than ever today.
Antje Jörg has set ambitious goals. She aims to drive a cultural shift within the fire department: modern leadership, more entrepreneurial thinking, and greater diversity. “I would love to see more than just two women in senior fire service roles. But it’s not just about women—we need more diversity! Munich is diverse, and the fire department should reflect that. I also see it as my responsibility to create the structures and culture to support this change.”
The first programs are already running successfully— and they certainly won’t be the last of Antje Jörg’s initiatives.
