At the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, according to the IOC, for the first time there will be an equal number of women and men participating!
The number of female participants in the Olympic Games has steadily increased over the years. While only 2.2% of participants were women at the Paris Games in 1900, the figure had risen to 48% at the Tokyo 2021 Games.
“We are on the verge of celebrating one of the most significant moments in the history of women in the Olympics and in sports overall,” said IOC President Thomas Bach. “This is our contribution to a world with greater gender equality.”
