‘That a research effort now leads to millions of people taking to the streets, that a movement is emerging from this, has never happened in the Federal Republic,’ said Jeannette Gusko, managing director of CORRECTIV, to Vogue. After the large demonstration in Berlin on February 3rd with the motto ‘We Are the Fire Wall,’ Vogue spoke with prominent voices about their concerns, wishes, and demands, including Jeanette Gusko. She was one of the speakers at the demonstration.”

“It is important to understand now that advocating for democracy is not an activist position, but rather a matter of values and something fundamental. Democracy is the foundation for everything, for every detail in our daily lives. It is crucial that businesses, democratic, legal, or political organizations, cultural and sports institutions, administrations, and others truly ask themselves what their most effective strategies are to strengthen democracy and ensure that they implement them with all their might.

The outcome of the next two years will also depend on whether people say: ‘I have a new hobby, and that is democracy.’ I will take a little time in my busy life and commit myself week after week to democracy and do something—attending demonstrations, collecting donations, writing to my politicians, reading, informing myself, forming an opinion, and starting to argue and debate. This will create democratic discourse, which is important.

A new study has just been released where 1,000 people were surveyed, and they reported that the developments following the research have pulled them a bit out of lethargy, and there is a renewed sense of hope, which also gives me hope.
